Success with Bison Reading

We hope that you have enjoyed the Bison Reading Initiative so far this semester. The results of the reading initiative are encouraging to us as teachers and we want to share this success with you!

In using a focus group of participants, we have found, of those that indicated participation in the initiative, that 75% of these students saw increases in reading comprehension, 50% of them meeting or exceeding the semester goal of a 100-point increase on their reading benchmark. This is pretty impressive and shows that practicing reading will increase your student’s comprehension and will help them see academic gains and success. Independent reading practice is imperative to your child’s education and we hope to continue to support you and your family in fostering a love for reading in your home.

Please continue to encourage your child to read independently. Help them choose books that they will enjoy and that they will want to read for at least 20 minutes every day. Of course, your local library is a great place to find books and many local libraries offer free reading online when you enter your library card number. However, we have also compiled a list of free reading websites on the Bison Reading site so that you and your students can access even more books.

Other resources are also available on the Bison Reading site to help your child with vocabulary and/or fluency practice. I hope you get a chance to check these out and play some of the fun games with your student.
